The Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller will be accountable for the accounting operations of the company and its development-related entities. This includes oversight of all accounting functions, the production of accurate and timely financial reports, and the design of systems and processes that support efficiency, automation, and scalability. The SVP, Corporate Controller will have primary responsibility for ensuring tax compliance and reporting across Michaels’ development and corporate entities, working in coordination with both internal resources and external advisors.


This role requires a CPA-qualified finance leader with demonstrated experience in real estate, preferably including tax structuring and/or family office exposure. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable “rolling up their sleeves” to solve problems directly as they are leading teams, mentoring staff, and driving process improvement across a complex, growing organization.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead, develop, and mentor accounting teams to ensure high performance, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
  • Design and optimize organizational structures and workflows within the accounting function to achieve greater efficiency and scalability.
  • Champion process improvement and automation initiatives to streamline financial operations, with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and operating efficiency.
  • Partner cross-functionally with development, operations, and executive leadership to support the growth and success of Michaels’ real estate portfolio.

 

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and treasury functions.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Oversee accounting for subsidiaries, joint ventures, and development entities, including compliance with partnership agreements and investor reporting obligations.

 

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Lead the preparation of timely, accurate, and compliant financial statements under GAAP/IFRS.
  • Develop financial and operational metrics, budgets, and forecasts, and monitor performance against benchmarks.
  • Deliver financial analysis to support capital investments, development projects, pricing, and contract negotiations.
  • Drive variance analysis and communicate key insights and issues to management.

 

Tax Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax reporting and filing requirements.
  • Oversee tax planning, structuring, and compliance for development entities and corporate operations.
  • Partner with internal tax resources and external advisors to manage complex real estate transactions and optimize tax outcomes.
  • Coordinate annual audit processes with external auditors.
  • Proactively identify accounting and reporting risks and implement systems to mitigate them.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role; real estate or development sector strongly preferred.


Required Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required; CMA or other advanced credentials a plus


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong tax and structuring background; family office experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive organizational change, and implement process/system improvements.
  • Hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset: able to dive into details while maintaining a strategic view.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based in Camden, NJ.
  • Travel is very limited, but may occur occasionally to visit subsidiaries, developments, or external partners.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet deadlines.

 

Salary Range Information:


The range displayed on each job posting reflects the targeted base salary for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Salary Range

$170,000 - $220,000 Annual Salary
