Senior Estimator

The Senior Estimator will be assigned to specific projects and work as a team leader supporting all aspects of the estimating and pre-construction process. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate detailed costs estimates for multi-family construction projects (new and renovations). This position will also be involved in the planning and the development of the design documents through plan review and coordination with our in-house Developers and Architecture team.

• Prepare detailed estimates in all phases of a project (conceptual, design development and final bidding).
• Review progress drawing and offer design suggestions to maintain budget and cost management throughout the entire design process.
• Prepare Value Engineering (VE) to maintain budget.
• Manage and train estimators/junior estimators assigned to your projects.
• Meet project compliance goals when preparing final estimate.
• Review, vet and level all subcontractor proposals
• Prepare Construction Contract Exhibits.
• Prepare bid packages along with detailed scopes of work for all trades.
• Handle subcontractor negotiation on awards.
• Ability to establish good relationships with subcontractors in the various regions of the country in which we Michaels Construction operates.

Required Experience: 

• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Bluebeam, etc.)

Required Education/Training: 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent degree.
• 10-15 years’ experience as an estimator or in the construction industry.

Required Skills and Abilities: 

• Hardworking team player, Computer competent, blue print reading, good communication skills, and good time management with the ability to multi-task.
• Extensive knowledge of the latest industry practices and standards.

Working Conditions: 

• Occasional overtime & should have the ability for light travel and site visits.
